Tomy Joseph, DVM., M.Sc., Ph.D  is the Director of the Animal Health Centre (provincial veterinary diagnostic laboratory) in British Columbia (BC). Prior to serving as Director, Dr. Joseph was the Veterinary Virologist and Section Head for the Virology, Molecular Diagnostics, and TSE sections at the Animal Health Centre from 2013 to 2022.  Because of his passion for quality management in veterinary diagnostic laboratories he also served as the Quality Manager of the BC Animal Health Centre from 2014 to 2018.
Dr. Joseph has been a member of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) since 2014 and served on the Executive Board (Region 7, Canada Representative) from 2015 to 2018. He is also a member of the AAVLD accreditation committee since 2018 and an auditor for the Standards Council of Canada (ISO/IEC 17025) and the AAVLD for accreditation audits and site visits.  
Dr. Joseph earned his veterinary medical degree from the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kerala Agricultural University, India, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D in veterinary and molecular virology from the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada. He then completed three years of postdoctoral research at the avian influenza virus research laboratory, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA before beginning his career in veterinary diagnostic virology and research at the provincial Veterinary Diagnostic Services in Manitoba in 2007.
Dr. Joseph was an Assistant Professor (adjunct) at the Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba from 2008 to 2018 and currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Western School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. He collaborates with researchers from universities and Government institutions in the development and validation of various diagnostic techniques and molecular and antigenic characterization of animal viruses.
