Dr. Kevin SnekvikNorthwest Representative, Region 5 (Term: 2022-2025)
Dr. Kevin Snekvik, DVM, PhD, DACVP is in the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he serves as Executive Director and Aquatic Health Section Head for the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) and has an academic appointment as a Professor in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology. Trained as a veterinarian board-certified in veterinary anatomic pathology, Dr. Snekvik also has a PhD focused on immunological responses and disease development during retroviral infection. His research over his career has focused on the pathogenesis, immunological response, diagnosis, surveillance, and detection of a variety of viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens of veterinary significance in terrestrial animals and fish. Recently he has worked closely with the USDA National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) on disease surveillance by successfully securing WADDL as a NAHLN-NBAF Partnership host laboratory and with the advancement of One Health priorities as a member of the Northwest Pathogen Genomics Center of Excellence in conjunction with the WA Department of Health and funding by the CDC. Within the AAVLD Dr. Snekvik has served as a co-chair for the AAVLD/USAHA Joint Committee on Aquaculture from 2005-2014 and served as the AAVLD Northwest Regional Representative to the Executive Board from 2015-2021 and as interim representative from 2023-2024. Other AAVLD committees Dr. Snekvik has been a member of include the Membership Committee, the AAVLD/ USAHA Joint Committee on the NAHLN, the AAVLD Laboratory Directors Committee, and the AAVLD Government Relations Committee.
