Clarice was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but spent weekends on the family farm. In 1985, I completed a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Sao Paulo. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Canada and obtained a master’s degree in theriogenology from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. After several years working in private practice, I joined the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in 2002, where I have been occupying positions of increased responsibility. I am the Director of the Animal Health Science Division leading a team of epidemiologists who conduct risk assessments, design surveillance programs, conduct risk intelligence activities, coordinate, and manage animal health laboratory services, and provide internal and external coordination for research in animal health from a CFIA’s perspective. I have been named as one of Canada’s experts at the Standing Group of Experts on Avian Influenza for the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of the Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs Americas) of the World Organization for Animal Health and am a frequent contributor to the various One Health platforms in Canada. I have always had an interest in serving the profession in whatever way I can. I am the past president of the Ontario Association of Bovine Practitioners, a former member of the Community Reference Panels of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and the current president of the Canadian Animal Health Laboratorians Network.
